Dr. Jeroan Allison currently serves as the Chair for the Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Initially trained as a primary care physician, Dr. Allison has made an increasing commitment to the emerging field of health equity intervention over the past 15 years. His team has a particular interest in the concept of narrative intervention, or “storytelling” to address health disparities. Over the past 20 years, he has maintained continuous funding from several extra-mural sources such as the National Institutes of Health, the Agency for Health Care Quality and Research, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Dr. Allison is Co-Editor-in-Chief of Medical Care, a leading journal in the field of health services research sponsored by the Medical Care Section of the American Public Health Association. He holds a Master of Science degree in Epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health and is board-certified in Internal Medicine.

Dr. Jerry Gurwitz is the founding Executive Director of the Meyers Primary Care Institute, a joint endeavor of University of Massachusetts Medical School, Fallon Health, and Reliant Medical Group established in 1996. The Meyers Primary Care Institute has a mission to improve the health and healthcare of populations and communities through innovative research and educational endeavors. He currently holds the Dr. John Meyers Professorship in Primary Care Medicine at University of Massachusetts Medical School where he also serves as Chief of the Division of Geriatric Medicine. Dr. Gurwitz is Principal Investigator of the AGING Initiative (Advancing Geriatrics Infrastructure and Network Growth), funded by the National Institute on Aging, that brings together the Health Care Systems Research Network with the 14 university-based Older Americans Independence Centers (“Pepper Centers”) across the U.S. to foster collaborative research targeting older adults with multimorbidity.
Dr. Gurwitz’s research falls at the intersection of geriatric medicine, patient safety, and healthcare delivery science. His career has covered a spectrum from aging pharmacology, to medication effectiveness and safety, to testing of innovative health information technology-based interventions to improve the quality and safety of health care during transitions across clinical settings. Dr. Gurwitz has been the recipient of numerous awards including the John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Award for Research from the National Quality Forum and the Joint Commission. He has been the recipient of the Leon I. Goldberg Young Investigator Award from the American Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT), the William B. Abrams Award in Geriatric Clinical Pharmacology from ASCPT, and the George F. Archambault Award from the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists.
Dr. Nguyen is a cardiovascular disease epidemiologist who has had more than 15 years of experience in public health, clinical research, and global health. She has received grant funding support from the NIH to conduct several observational studies and randomized controlled trials in Vietnam. She served as the Principal Investigator for a study aiming to establish a population-based registry for patients hospitalized with acute myocardial infarction in northern and central provinces of Vietnam. She is a key investigator on an NHLBI funded study examining the effectiveness of the Storytelling intervention in improving hypertension control in Vietnam. She is also a key investigator for a Fogarty International Center/NCI funded study evaluating the effectiveness of a motivational text message intervention in increasing the use of quitlines and smoking cessation in Vietnam. She is Multi-PI for a Fogarty funded training program in non-communicable disease in Vietnam, in which a new Master in Epidemiology in English and a Postdoctoral fellowship program have been established at Hanoi Medical University. She serves as the instructor for several courses offered at the University and a mentor to several Masters, Ph.D, and postdoctoral trainees. She has served on scientific review panels on global health at the NIH.
